This is a discussion-based class with weekly readings (newspaper archives, scientific articles, web resources) designed for students to understand:
The geologic history and natural resources of local  communities
The history of communities, resource extraction, and economic development on that community
The challenges to sustainability (broadly!) faced by this community
Students should be able to apply knowledge from this class to a broader context of other communities in the US.
"I learned outside perspectives on energy production and its effects on communities
"I really liked the small size and discussion nature of this class.
"Discussions, guest speakers, reading assignments
"Group discussions!
